Reducing Recidivism

As of 2020, about 46% of offenders released in California are reconvicted within three years of release, and even more, are rearrested.

Research shows that recidivism risk can be effectively reduced by an average of 30% through evidence-based and behavior-changing programming that targets criminogenic needs, such as courses in cognitive behavioral therapy and other topics.

The Impact - In Their Own Words

  • "The best decision I ever made...

I changed my entire life and way of thinking. I took great advice from amazing ladies that told me to get a sponsor, go work the steps, go to the meetings, and be of service. So I did and the outcome has been a life I never thought I could have and it keeps getting better.

Because of programs and people that are willing to not look at me like a lost cause. I am given a second chance at life!”

  • "I will be forever grateful...

Freedom Through Education gave me a chance at transition, helped me get back on my feet, and believed in me enough to introduce me to this amazing experience and company.

I am now actually excited about my future!”

  • Through hard work and perseverance...

She has accomplished what some would seem possible. In December 2019, Jessica was recommended to Freedom Through Education with the possibility to move and become a house manager in their program. She had an initial interview with Johnny Lujan and shortly after moved into the Serenity House where she has been the house manager to this date. Jessica also continued to strive for better things and is now employed full-time and a working member for Local Union 185.

As of May 19, 2020, Jessica received an early release from parole and she is now a living example of what hard work can accomplish.
